Today was my last day at work. In some ways it was sad but I can't say that I'm going to miss the job, it'll be the people I miss. Recently it has been really cold at work. I went in the fridge one day and it felt warm. I thought this can't be right but it really was warmer in the fridge than out. I'm not going to miss the cold one bit. When I was getting ready to leave Teel and Tyler told me I couldn't leave yet and they got out the whip cream. Let's just say I needed a shower when Teel was done with me.
It was really a day of good byes. I originally thought it wouldn't be hard to leave, but there are lots of people I have to say good bye to. It was my last violin lesson. I've been taking lessons for a year with Neil and I have really gotten into the habit of having my lesson. I'm going to miss it when I'm in China. I'm not taking my violin as I would be really upset if it was stolen as it was my grandmother's. I'm going to be trying to find one when I'm there. Hopefully it won't be to hard to find as I really want to keep playing.
Matthew and I also had our last Chinese lesson. It was a good lesson as we were reading stories or short little songs. It was nice as I got more of a feel for the language that way. Tonight is Matthew's last night working, he still has day shifts. I think that the night shift was something he really didn't like. I can't say I liked him working it that much but that is over now.

Hair Cut
So I just started feeling like my hair was too long. It has been taking me 10 to 15 minutes to brush. I don't have time to sit there and go through the pain, yes sometimes it hurts, of getting the knots out. My mom cut 10-11 inches off and I thought it was going to be really short but it isn't as short as I thought it would be. I think that because it is really dry it isn't curling as much as normal. It is about shoulder length now and I have to say I really like it. The real reason for cutting my hair on such short notice was because I was getting my visa and I wanted my picture to have hair similar to what it was going to be like in China. I was planning on getting it cut once I got there but I just sped up the process a little.
I went home after I was at the Rotary orientation. It was nice to go. The pond was frozen so we went skating. I haven't been ska
ting on our pond since I was little. I think it was about 10 years ago. I don't really remember though. I thought I was really going to take a face plant or do something stupid like lean back and fall but it came back pretty fast. The ice wasn't that smooth around some of the edges but it was still nice. I forgot how skating can be a work out and even on our little pond it was more than I had anticipated. It was really fun skating. We skated in the morning and it was nice to be able to see what was what. Last night when we were skating I had a slight collision with a branch over hanging the pond.

Tonight was the holiday party at work. I didn't expect to have a good time but I did. It was nice to see everyone out of uniform and to get to know them better. I guess for me it was a little late as my last day at work is Sunday the 17th. A week from today. I'm pretty excited about going to China.

Computer Charger Dying
My computer charger is deteriorating and I've ordered a new one so that the wires I can see don't catch something on fire. It happened really fast too. I was not even aware that something was wrong with the charger until yesterday. The plastic/rubber coating seems to have broken and now the wires on the inside are falling apart. I thought that it would be okay, yesterday, if I was really careful, but now I can smell it every once in a while and it smells hot. Not good. I don't want to start a fire or anything. Also, I want to have a computer later on and my battery doesn't last all that long anymore when it is not plugged in. It is a real bummer as I would have liked to buy something else, I don't know what, food maybe, but now I have a new charger for my computer on the way. I just hope this one doesn't blow up before it gets here, otherwise I'm going to be one unhappy girl.
Yesterday was my second day waking up at 5 am and let me tell you it is not something which I want to be doing again anytime soon. It was not fun at all and I couldn't seem to take a nap when I got back home. I lay in bed for a while but I couldn't sleep. I just kind of drifted close to sleep but not sleeping. I did realize that I don't want to be a waiter and I would really like to do something else with my time. I'm still thinking about what that might be. I do know I want to use my brain more and that is not something I am doing right now.

Two 5 o'clocks
This morning I had to get up at 5 to get into work on time. I was a bundle of joy after that let me tell you. To begin with I don't like waking up in the morning when it is not light out. It was dark. Very dark. I also like waking up slowly at my own pace not up and at em right away. Just not my thing. I like time to think and plan my day when I get up. This was not the case. I did not even eat breakfast before I ran out the door. Lucky for me I did get breakfast at work. Humm Yummy bacon, eggs, potatoes, and fruit. The fruit was really good and the bacon while not the best was well bacon and it was good.
Work was slow today. That is until right about the time I was thinking they were going to let me go. I was thinking I'll get some more sleep. I'm going to go home and crawl back in bed. But no then a group added a lunch so I got to stay longer. I need the hours but I am not a 6 in the morning girl. And I get to do it all over again tomorrow.
Today is one of the first sunny days. It has rained and rained for the past week. After I got off work I had my violin lesson. It was a good lesson but I need to practice more as my fingers were hurting at the end. I think it is from helping out in the dish pit at work. I think I will try and avoid further contact with chemical soaps.
Well it is time for dinner and then bed as tomorrow is going to be an early morning.

Work
On Monday I had a headache most of the day because my neck was hurting. And I think it all got worse when I took out my paycheck from Dining Innovations and found that they had only paid me $7.25, minimum wage, for training. I checked with the other girls that were hired at the same time as me and we all agreed that they told us that we would be paid for training but that they had left out the $7.25 part of that. I thought that they would be paying me the $10 that I normally would make. I was expecting a much larger paycheck than I got so it was a little frustrating. Not only that I felt mislead, which is why I am now looking for another job. Not only did they tell us they would be paying us for training, when I was hired they told me I would be able to work between 30 and 40 hours a week. The most I have worked in a week is 28 hours. I am not going to be able to pay rent with this job. Last week I worked 11 hours total and this week I think I might be able to work 20 hours if I can stay late on Saturday. Last night I did get to work around 9 hours so that is a start on me being able to pay the rent but not enough.
I don't want to have to worry about whether or not I will be able to pay rent or not. So that I don't worry about it I'm working on getting another job. I would really like to work in a book store or for that matter a library would be great. I love books and it would be nice to be around them. Maybe I will see if the Library is hiring. I already applied at Barns and Nobel. I haven't heard from them. I tried to apply at Mr. K's Used Books but they had just filled the position. I'm not sure of the point in trying to apply at Malaprop's because they have had the same employees as long as I can remember. I also wouldn't mind working at a movie rental place, but they probably don't pay that well. Once again let the great search for work commence.

JOB!
On Friday I was finally hired at Dining Innovations. I'm really happy to just have a job at this point. After they hired me on Friday they asked if I wanted to work on Saturday. I was hired at the same time as two other girls and we all said yes. So on Saturday we were thrown in without any of the training to an event for the JCC (Jewish Community Center) which I live right next to.
Friday night I rushed around before I went to meet Erik and Alle` for a movie at the Fine Arts Theatre. We saw Ponyo which was good but not as good as some of Myazaki's other movies. It was more for kids than his other movies have been but it was still good.
Saturday morning I had an interview with Rotary for a scholarship for next year. I was nervous about it but it really wasn't that bad. The interview took place at AB Tech Community College. I am not familiar with the campus at all and they told me it was in Laural Hall and when I looked at a map of AB Tech there was no Laural Hall, so I emailed and they said that it was Laural Hall in the Fergison Building. It was good I found out early or I would have been wandering around lost. I got there early which meant I was sitting in the really cold hall waiting to go in. Also when I got there I realized that I had forgotten that I was wearing my Chacos and not my nice shoes so I was really glad that I was wearing long pants which mostly covered my shoes. Leave it to me to do something stupid like that. They finally came out and brought me in. Their were about ten of them and they each asked one question of me. The room we were meeting in was not nearly as cold and by the middle of the interview I was actually getting pretty warm. They told me it would be about a 30 minute interview but they let me go for 50 minutes which could be good or bad. I felt pretty good about the interview because they all seemed to appreciate my experiences. I will find out at the beginning of next month if I'm going to get the scholarship or not. Then I have to wait until Rotary International decides what institution they are going to place me at. We have to chose five institutions. During my interview they suggested that I chose more varying institutions than what is on my application now. I also need to put them in my order of preference. So I have to do that as soon as possible. I think I'm going to be doing that today or tomorrow so that I can get the updated form to them as soon as possible.
That evening I headed into work. I was serving hors d'œuvres. I have to say that I never thought of myself as weak but after carrying around the platter offering hors d'œuvres for 30 minutes I thought my arms were going to fall off. By the time they moved on to the dinner I was really happy to be refilling water glasses and scraping plates for the kitchen. It was gross but it wasn't hard on my arms.
Yesterday I didn't do much as I had a headache that would not go away. I sat outside and ate dinner and there was a rainbow in the clouds. It was three setts of color. I haven't ever seen a rainbow like those before.
Today I head back into work. I'm hoping they will go easy on my arms but as today is mostly training I think it will be alright.

Bele Chere
This weekend was Bele Chere. I was really starting to look forward to it because I had gotten a job for the festival and was really looking forward to less stress after being paid. However, the schedule was changed so I ended up only working yesterday. After having worked a day in the kid's area for Your Event Source (YES) I'm glad they cut me from working today. It was a 10 1/2 hour day and they only gave me one 30 minute break the entire day. It was really a drag. By the end of the day I didn't even want to go out and listen to music at the festival. Little kids are so hard to deal with. They don't know how to wait and they scream. There were a couple kids that really shouldn't have been allowed on the blow ups after they had kicked and screamed and had a tantrum. All I know is that the parents were defiantly not helping the kids learn a better behavior they were only spoiling the kids.
For the thirty minutes I had as a break I went and ate lunch outside. It was really beautiful and warm. They had the AC on and it was really cold in the civic center. I walked down the ally by the Library and sat and ate my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. While I was eating I could hear the nearby band. Also there was a seed floating in around in the wind it was really beautiful. There were also two balloons floating up into the clouds. I watched them until they were gone. One was red and the other was blue. I kept looking away and then looking back and think disappeared but then I would find them again. They were gone by the time I went back inside.
After they let me go I met up with Matthew and we went and checked out each of the bands playing. We decided to stay and listen to a Sly & the Family Stone cover band. They were pretty good and it was fun to hear music I knew.
One of my books, Coptic stitch.
Today I made the covers for some books I'll sew later. I'm hoping to start a website to sell them from. Although as I'm heading off to visit family on Wednesday and going down with Matthew to his dad's this evening or tomorrow it seems unlikely that I will get a website up anytime soon until then the picture of one of my books that is finished as an example of what will be on the web page. The picture washes out some of the color so I'll have to get better pictures before I start my website as well. But that shouldn't be to hard to do.
I think I have two ripe tomatoes today which is really exciting. I'm hoping nothing has decided to have a snack. My first tomato had a bite taken out of it by something. That was up setting. Also my pepper is starting to turn red. I'm hoping it doesn't get ripe before I get back from visiting family in Wisconsin.
