Second thoughts on China

Okay so they think that is is bad for your health to swallow phlegm. As you might guess this leads to lots of spitting and hawking of luggies. I don't think I will ever get used to it. As of right now I'm trying really hard not to cringe every time someone spits. There is the perpetual sound of hawking up spit. I think if I had to chose a sound for Kunming it would be that of spiting. Gross, Gross, Gross. I walk on spit everywhere I go. I stepped on one that was still wet yesterday and it was slippery. It was so gross. Even the women spit. I saw one spit and it didn't quite make it out of her mouth so it was just hanging there. Ough!

I'm going to die in China from all the smoke. I've already developed a cough that won't go away. It isn't like I have a cold it is just from all the smoke. That and maybe the dust. I'm so ready to have a place of my own where I can tell people they cannot smoke. Right now I really want to yell or growl at all the people smoking. Matthew says it is a sure way for me to be deported. Well at least I think taken to a crazy house. One begins to wonder if there is real air under all the smoke. I feel like I live in a bar 24/7. Well I haven't been here 7 days yet but long enough to know that they are going to keep smoking even on the weekends.

  1. Two words: Rubber Boots.

I have no other comment due to the fact that I am busy fighting off a bad sinusitis thing and would probably fit right in there, with the horking, and so forth.

The pictures show me what looks like a clean and beautiful city. The gritty descriptions you have given tell me a picture is worth less than an honest impression.
